Music Center Plaza - Los Angeles CA - Landscape/Urban Development Merit Award!

The Music Center Plaza in downtown Los Angeles has undergone a major metamorphosis from its original 1960’s construction into a stunning destination and event venue. The new look consisted of a remodel and refresh of the existing outdoor plaza which included three new restaurants, new water element, new paving areas, new special effects lighting, new performance areas and widened stairway to the plaza itself. The Plaza was flattened with connection points to the surrounding Pavilion Forum and Theater being rebuilt to allow for increased capacity and a more pedestrian-friendly plaza. Matt Construction installed the three-foot high raised floor system and faced structural challenges along the way. AMA worked diligently with Matt Construction and Rios Clementi Hale on developing custom media ‘hydrants’ that reside below the raised floor and have access panels flush with the pavers. The media hydrants have power and low voltage connections for events.
